Everyone has to sign a disclaimer that they abide by the rules of the Community Centre and are fit to join in. There is no fee, we pay just £1 each for the use of the hall and all are responsible for themselves. There is opportunity to do some choreography or just join in the dances.


The group has started dancing out
& giving demonstrations at local events in the Dumfries& Galloway area.

"Belly-dance"

Delya trained as a PE teacher for 3 years in the 1970's and specialised in National Dance for 2 years of that course which included choreography and general teaching of dance.
Bedford College of Physical
Education was one of the top colleges at that time. Delya has 2 main subjects, P.E. which included modern educational dance and Drama, this training included principles of movement, anatomy, physiology and psychology of teaching. Delya went on to teach in secondary schools in the South Cumbria area for 6 years before changing course to social work.
She was taught Arabian Folk Dance movements and Egyptian Classical Dance using veils by Eileen Bishop-Rowe in Ulverston and "Belly-Dance" by Natalie Nardone in Kendal, Cumbria. She also did ten years
ballet training. She prefers teaching Arabian Folk Dance, Egyptian Balaadi and classical Egyptian Veil Dancing.



The three dancers have formed a group called Saqqara. They are available for ladies nights in the Stewartry area or for demonstrations & talks on the development of Arabian dance to the modern Belly-dance for other groups.

Elaine Garner (Isis) also a Barrowvian living in Dumfries and Galloway. Elaine hopes to teach her own form of Romani form of Dancing and has a background in drama from Birmingham School of Speech Training and Dramatic Art.
Her performance skills include mime, tap and other forms of dance based on folk traditions. As a teacher at various stage schools on the north of England she studied movement training and qualified to teach post 16 age group. At Kendal F. E. taught "An introduction to Musical Theatre" BTEC in performing Arts. This included basic choreography and learning basic dance sequences. Elaine holds an Equity card, and with her partner Greg has started to perform in the small theatres in the area as Top Hat Productions. Greg plays the African drums and has started to accompany the group at some dance outs.


Deborah Adamson (Daralis), specialises in veil dancing and the use of Isis wings from Egypt.
Deborah has a keen interest in dance and also enjoys finding new costumes and learning new dances.
