Set in the historic Artists town of Scotland, Kirkcudbright has a seagoing harbour, which was probably known to the Vikings and the Romans. Kirkcudbright has been a port of some significance for nearly 1000 years. It is ideally situated for touring South West Scotland.
Many of the houses in High Street are from the 17th Century and many have been restored in a sympathetic manner. The harbour is near the town centre
and really nowhere is very far in Kirkcudbright.
MacClellans Castle or medieval town house run by Historic Scotland gives a wonderful backdrop to the town and harbour area. In High Street stands Broughton House and Garden run by the National Trust where E. A Hornel,the Glasgow Boy Artist, lived and worked.
